There’s something soothing about waters rushing to and ebbing away from the shores. Despite little recollection of my encounters with beaches during my childhood, they somehow bring out the inner child in me. I just can’t help shrieking for pleasure at the sight of sun-glistened blanket of waters. Who can?
Tigbauan is one of the municipalities in Iloilo rich in beach resorts sprawling along the coastline in the southern part of the town. Getting there is only half an hour’s drive from the city. Just before the rainy season kicks in, a plunge in one of these beaches is not to miss.
Together with my nephews and niece, we, the siblings, set off to one of Tigbauan’s resorts – the Shamrock Beach Resort. Being a big group, we rented a huge cottage which can accommodate about 20 persons. After an early lunch, the group decided to break the initial agreement (that was to go for a dip around 4pm when the tides were supposedly low and the sun was no longer that harsh); hence, we started removing our slippers and dipping our happy feet (then finally our whole bodies) at noon. Before we knew it, we were already giggling like kids at the vast water around us.
As I can’t swim (admittedly), I thought soaking in the water and the sun would bore me. However, I was delighted to see our teenage kids swimming free, the immense sea seemingly spreading out to the infinite horizon, and that particular time when we would just sit on the sand and let the strong waves crash against us to our sheer enjoyment. I could feel the minute sand displacing from my behind.
Little did we know we already spent more than three hours in the water. I may not have known what the rest of us did and thought at some “alone” time, but as for myself – I meditated on how calming the waves were despite their raging surge. The sound they make is dynamic yet peaceful, boisterous yet musical. And the most wonderful fact of all these: they never give up from doing so – 24/7. I will never trade any place else for this constant serenity.
There are just plenty of places around the world like this where you realize life deserves some slowing down. Leave the hustles and bustles of city life at some point and find such a place, then you will be pleased about how the elements in that place work together – their unrelenting works holler that there is indeed God!
